Key West, Florida: Paradise USA and Southern most point of the USA, just 90 miles from Cuba, this Florida destination is one you don't want to pass up!
The best advice comes from personal experience so today's blog is filled with mine. Here are the things I LOVE to do when I venture down to Key West.
1. The Key West Express is THE only way to get down there. This short 4 hour boat ride will cost you round trip $124-$139 depending on the day you decide to go. For those of you more adventurous a one way ticket only costs $94... On board you will find a full bar to start your vacation off right. Get there early so you can find a table on the boat for all of your friends.
2. Once you've arrived, Dantes Pool will be to the right of the dock. If you asked me, this was all planned out to maximize your vacationing fun. If you're up for it I recommend grabbing a cocktail and join in on a floating beer pong game. This is the best place to meet your future weekend friends.
3. If going straight to the hotel is more your style, make sure you're staying at La Concha. This hotel (although it may be pricey depending on time) is right smack dab in the middle of Duval Street, the most ideal location for convenience. They recently have renovated the lobby area, and there is of course a pool to cool down in.
4. Finally you're all settled in, it's time to being the famous Duval Crawl! This is obviously what Key West is all about, relaxing, partying, making memories, and whatever else happens! I always recommend starting at the smallest bar. Pick out your pineapple or coconut of choice and watch the bartender blend that baby into the best tasting drink you'll have all weekend.
5.You can never go wrong at Sloppy Joes for a food break. While you're there be sure to brag to all your friends and have them tune into the live streaming video https://sloppyjoes.com/cam_lp/ ! Give them a wave and cheers them with a beer, maybe next time they'll won't think twice about coming with you.
6. Irish Kevins... need I say more? This bar is by far one of the most famous bars in Key West.
7. Fat Tuesday: Here you must pick up one of those silly souvenir cups because these drinks are chilly, and the open container law lets you stroll Duval St. with your cup in hand. Go ahead and splurge, the refills are a little cheaper, and your hand won't freeze off by the time you're ready for your next drink.
8. So by now there has been a lot of partying, you're waking up famished from the night before and here comes breakfast! Blue Heaven is a little off the beaten trail, but you better set your alarm to beat the rush! This out door, chicken housing, lobster benedict serving heaven is the only place to have breakfast in KW. In case you do sleep in a little too late, grab a spot at the bar while you wait and have a bloody mary (you know you'll probably need one) and they make their own mix fresh every day!
9. Obviously you're going to need to pull the tourist card and take the iconic picture at the southern most point! Take a stroll, enjoy the Florida sunshine, and wait in line, yes it's worth it.
10. Last time I was in KW I made my way to the Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory, which was hands down one of the most beautiful and peaceful things I've experienced in Key West. Take a breather enjoy the plants and butterflies the garden is even climate regulated for the butterflies so it's not even as humid!
11. Mallory Square is the place to find your night entertainment and THE best place to watch the sunset.
So these are all the top things I've experienced in Key West, I hope you're now inspired to book your trip. As always there's an Engel & Völkers team ready to help you move after you've fallen in love with it...
