Global Committee Receives Highest National Council Status
Naples, Fla. (December 10, 2015) – When Naples Area Board of REALTORS® (NABOR®) Global Business Committee Chair Sharon McKie received news that her committee would be receiving Platinum Council Status and be recognized at the November National Association of REALTORS®’ Annual Convention in San Diego, she immediately got on the phone to fellow committee members to share the big news.
“Our committee is one of the first area boards in Florida to receive Platinum Council status,” said McKie, who went on to add that “we submit achievement applications every year but there’s only ever been 17 to obtain Platinum status in the world.”
Started in 2009, the NABOR® Global Business Committee works to connect members with resources that help them serve clients from around the globe and build members' awareness of the global and multicultural business opportunities in the local markets. In addition to tracking international buying trends and keeping members aware of changes in laws and regulations affecting all property transactions affecting foreign buyers and sellers, the Global Business Committee initiated these nine stand-out achievements in 2015:
In addition to these phenomenal achievements, McKie says her committee’s success is further strengthened by its volunteer committee members, which include NABOR® past president Pat Pitocchi, a CIPS certified International Property Specialist and Vice Chair of the Florida State Global Business Forum; and Al DiNicola, another NABOR® past president who donates his time and talent by traveling to many out-of-town meetings on behalf of the committee. Collectively, there are seven different languages spoken within the committee, which adds to its diversity.
According to McKie international buying trends are shifting. The largest number of investors no longer originate from Germany; but from the Canada and the UK. Buyers from Eastern European countries including Russia have grown as well. “There are 47 NABOR members that speak fluent Russian,” said McKie. “Interest in our area from Latin investors has also risen, as witnessed in over 5,800 local transactions from Colombia alone last year.”
NAR® assigns status classification each year by evaluating Global Business Councils in five focus areas: Communication, Community Outreach, Membership Value Creation, Education, and Media Outreach/Social Media.
NABOR®’s Global Business Committee is in good company with only a few other select Florida boards to receive Platinum Council status, as well as the state board, Florida Realtors®.
NABOR®’s Global Business Council is part of a consortium of 110 Global Councils that work directly with NAR to develop globally themed education, programming, and networking for members. This includes hosting CIPS courses and social events that build partnerships with other globally-minded businesses, mortgage brokers, attorneys, and other relevant local entities.
